Submitting sports results

The deadline for submitting sports copy is noon on Mondays. We prefer e-mail (howardcountysports@patuxent.com) or fax (410-997-4564). We do not accept results by phone. Kangaroo Kids

The Kangaroo Kids Precision held its annual Jump Rope Mini-Tournament at River Hill High School Feb. 3. Forty-eight novice and experienced jumpers from five teams competed in speed, power and freestyle events. Medals were awarded for first place and ribbons for second through sixth places.

Howard County Striders

The Howard County Striders held their Winter Series races Feb. 11 at Swansfield. Mother and daughter Vicki and Tiffany Lang won their respective races. Eric Furst won the two-miler for the men by a large margin. Sam Kraus sets a personal record for his first two-mile race.

New weekly runner Shirley Sameshima ran a strong five-miler with a respectable 50-minute finish. Eric Makovsky was five-mile overall winner.

Basketball

HCYP Sharks travel

The HCYP Sharks (age 9 girls) won their Feb. 11 game in the Arbutus league against the WHC Comets, 12-7. Erin Baker led the scoring effort with three baskets and one free throw. Ann Bonner added one basket and a free throw; Peyton LeConte added a basket to the score.

Strong teamwork and aggressive defense in the second half by Emma Cynor, Rebecca Doermann, Sharon Hull, Kathryn Kelehan, Emily Purnell, Lyndsey McLamb and Casey Summerson turned back the Comets.

Aubrey Carr and Kelsey Cummings exhibited strong ball handling skills throughout the game for the Comets.

Howard County Lightning

In league play, the Howard County Lightning (U-13 boys) defeated Hereford, 51-29. Matt Kaiser led with 12 points in a game where all Lightning players scored.

The Lightning then defeated Savage, 37-29. Kaiser (10 points) topped all scorers. Jonathan Na and Cal Mann led the defense.

Devon Dellamy played strong on both ends of the court for Savage.
