This announcement is also worth repeating. The West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department wants YOU. Station 3, located on Route 144 in West Friendship, is looking for volunteers ages 16 and older.

The volunteers at West Friendship Fire Department want you to know that if you are considering becoming a nurse, studying fire science or any of the emergency medical services fields, then you may be eligible for free tuition, tax breaks, retirement funds and most importantly, becoming a valued asset to your community.

Anyone with an interest in volunteering at Station 3 may contact a member at the station at 410-313-5403. Stop by the station anytime to chat with other volunteers.

The Howard County Fair has long since put away the last of the banners. Now comes a fall season of offerings at the fairgrounds. The Fall Fest Ham Radio and Computer Fair is set for Sept. 4 and 5, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Vendors, a tailgating area and free amateur radio license exams are on the schedule. Admission is $6 and includes parking.

And one more time, former Boy Scout Troop 757 Scoutmaster Harry Proctor is seeking alumni of the long standing local troop 757. The troop is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a picnic at the Howard County Fairgrounds Sept. 12, 1-5 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend should respond to Harry at 410-442-2591 or drop him a note at BSA Troop 757, P.O. Box 6351, Ellicott City, MD 21042-6351. Spread the word on this golden anniversary of Troop 757.

Call or e-mail to let me know what your group, club or family has cooking for the early fall.
